Biju.V .Francis
September 11, 2001 will go down in history as the Black Tuesday. The foundation of U.S.A was shaken and thousands of people lost their life in the barbaric terrorist attack on the world trade centre on that terrible Tuesday. The terrorist attack on Indian Parliament on December 13th and Legislate Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir were the great threat on democracy.
Terrorism is the deadliest of all problems the world today faces. Terrorism can be defined as a wild action meant for disrupting normal life and it’s fought for a cause. Terrorism started during the 1960s and it was targeted against states like Israel. There are two types of terrorism one is direct terrorism and another one is indirect. What America does behind the curtain of globalization is an Indirect Terrorism.
There are a few reasons for the growth of terrorism.
1. Religious Fanaticism
2. Excessive Nationalism
3. Regionalism
4. Fundamentalism
5. Imperialism
Terrorism poses a clear and present danger to the international community and is a definite assault on democracy and
freedom. Terrorism is a blatant attack by barbarians on civilized societies. Terrorism destroys economic stability of the nations and also international peace.
India is a country which suffers a lot from terrorism. Hundreds of people are killed in various parts of the country. There are number of terrorist groups working in different parts of the world. The Jihad warriors are trained by Afganistan Pakistan combine and supported by fundamentalist have radiated outwards to Kashmir, West Asia , Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia and the European Union.
Hundreds of militant schools in Afganistan produces Jehad fighters. They exist on two principles ,one is intolerance and the second is that they provide purpose in life to young people to take guns.
Terrorists believe in a monotheistic religion and culture and have a vicious hatred toward s other religion. Terrorists all too often try to legitimize their cult by recourse to religion. Fundamentalists and opportunists rulers use organized religion to further their own political agenda that can erode the foundations of a multi-cultural secular nation.
Undoubtedly National Security is very important. Without protecting safety and security of nation , individual rights cannot be protected. For this govt. has to tackle terrorism. How can terrorism be tackled ?
1. According to K. SARANYAN , the former Secretary of Security, ‘dynamic action should be taken.’
2. According to K.P.S GILL , the former D.G.P of Punjab , ‘govt. must go for the kill.’
3. According to D.R. KARTHIKEYEN , the former Director of C.B.I, ‘laws must be changed.’
The fight against terrorism is not against any religion; it is to bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice. Action must not just be taken against Osama Binladan , Alquida and the Taliban, but against any individual or group that perpetuates and abets race-hate , casteism, communalism and anti-national interests and policies.
Remember , we are not fighting against a particular faith or culture of people; but we are fighting for the right to live freely and in peace. We are fighting for the right to ‘ enduring freedom and infinite justice.’
